I've been looking forward to going to Hogwarts ever since Fred and George sent me a Hogwarts toilet for my 7th birthday. I've built up quite a collection of treasures from the school, from pumpkin treats they bought on the train, to sweets and anything to do with owls.
I wouldn't be happy if they ever sent me a spider, though *shudders*. Ever since I accidentally broke Fred's toy broomstick and he turned my teddy bear into a spider, those things scare the life out of me. Even the thought of that.... I mean can you imagine cuddling your favourite teddy bear, then suddenly discovering that it has more legs, and starts moving like a spide....
I just hope that Hogwarts doesn't make us use live spiders in anything; if they're dead, at least they can't move.
I found the perfect pet for sale last year when Mum took us to Diagon alley for Fred and George's school supplies. Of course I wasn't going to Hogwarts last year, so Mum said I didn't need anything. However, this year it's my turn and I would really love to get an owl. They're so useful and have that kind of graceful look about them.... but they are really pricey, andI don't think we could afford.... erm I mean I think on reflection that I would prefer to take Scabbers, Percy's old rat, if I have the choice. Scabbers hasn't ever done anything really outstanding though, but he is easier to transport than an owl - you don't need a large cage, as he can sleep in my pocket on the train.
I received some owl post this morning, which is quite rare for me. Being the 6th son tends to make me get lost in the crowd. The package contained was my train ticket, and acceptance letter for Hogwarts. Mum said she would take us all to Diagon Alley, so we could get everything we needed. Ginny saw me opening the package and burst into tears, as she still needs to wait another year before she can go. I did say I would ask Fred & George to send her some more treasures from school, although I don't think she would get too excited about a Hogwarts toilet.... I might send her some Pumpkin Pasties or something as well.
I wonder if, when we're in Diagon Alley, we might catch sight of the famous Harry Potter. He's meant to be the same age as me and it would be fantastic to be able to speak to him. Although he probably already has lots of wizarding friends and wouldn't want to know me. Most people think of the Weasley family as being "blood traitors" you see. My father doesn't do much to change people's opinions of us either, with his obsessional collection of Muggle things, like batteries and plugs; he even has a Muggle car in the shed! Most wizards think he's a bit.... well weird I guess. No doubt that would be weird to Harry too.
Anyway, I'd better go - I can hear Mum calling me downstairs, so we can get the Floo to Diagon Alley and get my things. I don't think I will be getting a new wand, as I heard Charlie telling Mum that I could have his old one. It's a pity really, as I was really looking forward to getting my own wand; I've heard so many things about Ollivander's shop. However, at least I should be able to get some new robes of my own, as I'm already taller than Charlie was at my age.
Notes:
Most of the pure-blood Wizarding community like to see themselves as superior to Muggles (non-wizarding people). Any wizard or witch who appears sympathetic to Muggles (or Muggle-born wizards or witches), runs the risk of being termed a Blood Traitor, which is one of the most derogatory names you can be called.
The Floo Network is a network of fireplaces that are interconnected. Most wizarding fireplaces are connected to the network, resulting in a relatively easy (if uncomfortable) mode of transport for those unable to use broomsticks, or unwilling to venture onto Muggle transport. Throwing a pinch of Floo Powder into the flames of a fireplace, turns the flames an eerie shade of green. Making sure to carefully speak the name of their destination, the wizard or witch then steps into the fire, and finds themselves transported to a fireplace in their desired location.
